Connolly Gallagher Partner Lauren DeLuca recently spoke at the American Bar Association’s annual House of Delegates Meeting to advocate for removing financial barriers that narrow the breadth of submissions to law reviews and journals.
Lauren spoke on behalf of the DSBA in support of Resolution 400, which urges law reviews and journals to adopt submission management systems that are free for prospective authors. The resolution argues that for-profit systems that charge $6.50 per submission per journal change the quality and type of submissions published in law reviews, “resulting in more theoretical articles by law professor authors and less practical scholarship that is of great value to lawyers and judges.” The resolution further urges those that have developed their own submission management to provide technical assistance to other law schools and academic organizations.
We are thrilled to report that the resolution was passed by the House, which enables the ABA and its partners to advocate in their respective communities for ways to increase the diversity of thought and scholarship at the law school journals and publications level.

Attending as the Delaware State Bar Association (DSBA) Young Lawyer Delegate, Lauren joined a distinguished group representing Delaware:
– William Johnston as State Delegate
– Assistant Professor at Wilmington University School of Law Nicole Mozee as the DSBA Delegate
– Judge William Carpenter as Delegate-at-Large
– Judge Calvin Scott as Delegate for National Conference of State Trial Judges
– John Hardin Young as Delegate for Senior Lawyers Division
